Abstract

The main objective of the present work is the methodological application of the Residuals and Derivations theory of V. Pareto to the analysis of Vaclav Havel's discourse. Along with other theoretical contributions, such as Foucault and Orwell, the Pareto methodology has the particularity of integrating different approaches used in discourse analysis. The intellectual stature and the high level of elaboration of Havel's speeches constitute an invitation to the analysis and application of the aforementioned methodology. For this, the Stockholm speeches, The Anatomy of Hate and the speech he delivered in Sao Paulo, among others, were considered as representative of the thought of the Czech President.
