Abstract

This article covers three angles in the formation of public spaces during the independence war of Charcas (Bolivia). Within the context of the circulation of pro Independence printed texts, three fields are studied that contributed to the fact that political debate should take the first place. Special emphasis is given to printed texts and printing works in Buenos Aires to expand new political referents towards Charcas, to type-setting artisans who became type-setters soldiers going through the experience of the battle field as the space for learning the art of typography. Finally, there is an analysis of Mariscal Sucre’s policy in favor of printing establishments ant the organization of the Typographical Society of Bolivia which is a third scene that nourished the formation of (political) public spaces associated to printing.
