IMPORTANT: Starting May 22, 2024, authors will be required to pay an Article Processing Charge (APC) to the journal for articles accepted for publication, which will be used to cover translation costs.

Revista Chilena de Fonoaudiología accepts manuscripts on an ongoing basis throughout the calendar year. The journal operates under a "continuous publication" model.

Publication policies

Arbitration Process

All manuscripts and their accompanying files must be submitted through the web platform of the Revista Chilena de Fonoaudiología. The documentation is reviewed by the editorial team of the Revista Chilena de Fonoaudiología and may potentially undergo a peer review process using double-blind arbitration, meaning that the names of both the authors and the reviewers remain anonymous throughout the process.

Manuscript Receipt

  • The manuscript and its accompanying files are received through the web platform.
  • The submission of all documentation must be made in accordance with the Publication Guidelines. Authors must declare their contribution in accordance with the CRediT initiative.
  • Receipt is confirmed when the receipt letter (a “.pdf” file) is sent by the Editorial Team.

Initial Review

  • The Editorial Producer checks that the submission meets the requirements of the Checklist and applies a Turnitin analysis to the content to assess similarity levels with other texts and potential use of artificial intelligence.
  • The texts, checklist, and Turnitin analyses are sent to the Editorial Team to evaluate the potential of the manuscript to undergo external peer review. At this point, the manuscript may be rejected, returned to the authors, or proceed to external review.

Relevance Assessment

  • The editor-in-chief or co-editor decides whether the manuscript is relevant according to the journal’s editorial policy.
  • If affirmative, the manuscript is forwarded to the appropriate section editor to potentially initiate the peer review process.
  • The section editor decides whether the manuscript should be rejected, returned to the authors, or proceed to external review.

Arbitration Process (External Peer Review)

  • The arbitration process is double-blind, meaning that the names of both the authors and the reviewers remain anonymous throughout the process.
  • The manuscript is sent to two reviewers who are experts on the subject addressed in the research.
  • If there is a conflict of interest between the authors and certain experts, a note must be attached to the journal editor indicating the individuals who should not participate in the arbitration process. In such cases, the editorial committee will send the manuscript to other reviewers. This information is completely confidential.

Comments and Suggestions

  • The editorial team sends the authors the comments and suggestions provided by the reviewers anonymously.
  • The authors must respond to each of the reviewers' and editors' comments through a letter whose suggested format is available in this document.
  • In the event of divergent opinions among experts, the editorial team decides whether to send the manuscript to a third reviewer, to publish it, or to reject it.

Correction of Observations

  • If the reviewer's report includes observations, the author has a period of four weeks to correct minor observations and six weeks for major observations. If the authors fail to meet the requested deadlines without adequate justification, the manuscript may be withdrawn from the evaluation or editorial process.

Final Decision

  • The fact that a manuscript is approved by the reviewers does not imply its immediate publication. The final decision regarding the publication or rejection of a manuscript rests with the editorial team, specifically the editor-in-chief and the co-editor-in-chief of the journal, who will decide based on all the documentation, comments, and recommendations regarding the manuscript.
  • Once the final decision regarding the publication or rejection of the manuscript is made, the author will receive direct written notification informing them of the decision.

Annual Publication Restrictions

The journal has implemented a policy aimed at promoting diversity among authors and topics. Furthermore, this initiative seeks to ensure the high quality of our publications. The policy limits the number of articles an author can publish in a calendar year. Therefore, as of June 7, 2024, each author may publish a maximum of one article per year in the journal.
Exceptions to this policy may be considered by the editorial team in specific and well-justified cases. This policy applies to all authors, regardless of their institutional affiliation or prior experience.
If you have any questions or need more information about this policy, please contact our editorial team at revfono.med@uchile.cl.

Open Access Policy

La Revista Chilena de Fonoaudiología provides free access to its content under the principle of making research freely available to the public, thereby supporting a greater exchange of global knowledge.
